This listing is for a single set of hybrid bookmatched Maple Burl with Black Alumilite epoxy resin knife scales, the perfect knifemaker's material for the handle of your next knife. Each scale measures approximately 5/16" x 1-7/8"W x 6"+L. The burl of the wood adds interesting color variations and designs, making these highly figured.

The wood portion of these scales was stabilized using cactus juice stabilizing resin, which is considered the best stabilizing resin on the market. After thoroughly drying the wood it was placed under vacuum to remove all of the air, after which the resin is given several days to fully penetrate the wood, and then they are cured. We then mixed black dye into Alumilite epoxy and poured our molds and placed them in a pressure pot to cure and remove all air bubbles. The stabilizing process makes then very solid and strong and the casting has filled any pits with black resin. There may be some slight superficial pits in the wood, but otherwise they will be very solid.

Some of the pictures may show the scales after wetting with oils in order to give you an idea of the final color when finished. There are also some pictures of the raw wood to show what it will look like when you receive it.

The scales have been milled to the size and surfaced to the extent shown, but they are not sanded or polished, since they will be finished as part of the knifemaking process.
