This listing is for a single set of hybrid bookmatched stabilized rare Desert Ironwood Burl with green Alumilite epoxy resin knife scales, the perfect knifemaker's material for the handle of your next knife. Each scale measures approximately 5/16" x 1-13/16"W x 6"+L. The burl wood adds interesting color variations and designs.

The wood portion of these hybrid scales was stabilized in cactus juice stabilizing resin, which is considered the best stabilizing resin on the market. After thoroughly drying the wood they were placed under vacuum to remove all of the air, after which the resin is given several days to fully penetrate the wood, and then they are cured. We then mixed green dye into Alumilite epoxy with green PearlEx powder and poured our molds and placed them in a pressure pot to cure and remove all air bubbles.

Although these scales are burl wood and may have had some soft/brittle spots initially, the stabilizing process makes then very solid and strong. There may be some slight superficial pits in the wood, but otherwise they will be very solid.

Some of the pictures show the scales after wetting with oils in order to give you an idea of the final color when finished. There are also some pictures of the raw wood to show what it will look like when you receive it.

The scales have been milled to the size and surfaced to the extent shown, but they are not sanded or polished, since they will be finished as part of the knifemaking process.
